Rockwell, Iowa is a small rural community in the southern part of Cerro Gordo County in Northern Iowa. It is located eleven miles south of Mason City, Iowa, at the intersection of Highway 65 and County Road B60. Rockwell is the home of Linn Grove Park and Recreation Facilities, Linn Grove Swimming Pool, and Linn Grove Country Club and Golf Course. The town has a population of around 1000 friendly people. The community sponsors a Chicken Barbecue on the second or third Sunday of August to raise money for the swimming pool. The Fourth of July fireworks display brings many people into the community, as well. The summer of 2010 will see many activities in Rockwell to help raise money for the new aquatic center, which in opening on May 29. |

The Rockwell Veterans Memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 31, 2004. There are over 500 names engraved on this memorial that have served in the United States Armed Forces. On May 29th the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening of the new Rockwell Aquatic Center will take place at 2 pm. Tickets to be the first person off the diving board and the first person down the slides are being sold by the Pool Board. The cost is $1 per ticket or 6 for $5. Buy some and try to be the "First". This year Rockwell will hold a Street Dance on Friday, July 2nd. Chasin Mason and Boogie and the YoYo's will perform on Main Street. A beer garden will open at 6:00 pm with bands starting at 7:00 pm. This event is sponsored by the Legion Club, the Rockwell Chamber of Commerce, and Premium Beverages. The Fireworks display will be held on Saturday, July 3rd in Linn Grove Park at sunset. On Friday and Saturday, July 9th and 10th, the Rockwell Lions Club will hold another NTPA National Truck & Tractor Pull at the Chamber Acres in Rockwell. The major sponsors for this event are Tom Hovland Enterprises, Inc - NAPA Auto Parts, Five Star Coop, Lyons Toyota, John Ries Excavating, INC., Truck Specialties, and Corporate Farmer. At 6:30 pm on Friday the following classes will be featured: 2 Wheel Drive Trucks , 4 Wheel Drive Trucks, Super Farm Tractors, Heavy Super Stock Diesel Tractors, and Modified Tractors. Saturday's event will start at 5:30 pm and will feature the following classes: 2 Wheel Drive Trucks, 4 Wheel Drive Trucks, Super Farm Tractors, Heavy Super Stock Diesel Tractors, Light Super Stock Tractors, Semis, and "Pull What You Drove". Tickets for this event are $18 for a one day pass and $30 for a two day pass. Tickets can be purchased in advance at any Tom Hovland's NAPA store in the area and from a Lion's member. The rain date is Sunday, July 11th starting at 1:30 pm. RAGBRAI will be going through Rockwell on July 28th on their way from Clear Lake to Charles City. "Rocking Across Rockwell" is the theme for this event. There will be a "Hair of the Dog" party under the Watertower starting at 9 am. The 44th Annual Chicken Barbecue will be held on August 8th at Zeidler Park from 11 am until 3 pm. The meal includes chicken, potato salad, sweetcorn, rolls, and drinks. This year the Chamber of Commerce will also be sponsoring the 7th Annual Kicken' & Chicken Fun Weekend starting on Friday, August 6th, with a Bull Riding Rodeo performance by 8 Second Rodeo and a band following. A dance featuring Boogie and the Yo-Yo's will be held on Saturday starting at 7 pm. All of these events will be at the Chamber Acres. Saturday's events will also include a Motorcycle & Classic Car Fun Run at the Legion and Softball Tournaments at Ziedler Park. On Sunday there will be a 5K Run (more information), a Classic Car Show, and more softball tournaments in addition to the chicken dinner all at Ziedler Park. On August 14th, the Rockwell Lions Club will host their annual Farm Machinery Consignment Auction at the Chamber Acres. They are holding a raffle for a Farmall 340 Tractor that day.
