This year the street dance will be held on Main Street on Friday, July 2nd. The gates will open at 6 pm with the band, Chasin Mason, starting around 7 pm. Boogie and the Yo-Yoz, North Iowa's favorite, will be the featured band.
The fireworks display will be held on July 3rd at Linn Grove Park at dusk.
This summer the Rockwell Lions Club is hosting another NTPA National Truck & Tractor Pull on July 9th & 10th at the Chamber Acres. Major Sponsors for this event are Tom Hovland Enterprises - NAPA Auto Parts, Five Star Coop, Lyons Toyota of Mason City, John Ries Excavating, INC., Truck Specialties, and Corporate Farmer. Friday's activities start at 6:30 pm with these five classes: 2 Wheel Drive Trucks, 4 Wheel Drive Trucks, Super Farm Tractors, Heavy Super Stock Diesel Tractors, and Modified Tractors. Activities begin at 5:30 pm on Saturday with the following seven classes: 2 Wheel Drive Truck, 4 Wheel Drive Trucks, Super Farm Tractors, Heavy Super Stock Diesel Tractors, Light Super STock Tractors, Semis, and "Pull What You Drove". Sponsors for the classes are: Phelps John Deere, Cartersville Elevator, Consolidated Energy Company, Window World, Graham Tire, Jeffrey Repair, Sukup Manufacturing, Mason City Red Power, Brakke Implement, Inc., First Security, Rockwell Seed Company, and Mason City All Risk Insurance Company.Tickets are $18 each for 1 night and $30 each for both nights with 8 and under free. Every year on the second or third Sunday of August the community members of Rockwell sponsor the Chicken Barbecue. Many people from the surrounding communities come for the great meal and friendships. For the past few years, the Chamber of Commerce has also sponsored the Kick'n & Chicken Weekend with a Bull Riding Rodeo, a dance by Boogie & the Yo-Yo's, and many other events. This year the rodeo is on Friday, August 6th sponsored by 8 Second Rodeo with a band performance afterwards. On Saturday, August 9th there are many events scheduled: softball tournaments, motorcycle and car rally, and at 7 pm the bands start the music at the Chamber Acres. This year there are two bands playing on Saturday evening with Boogie and the Yo-yoz being the last band. On Sunday morning the firemen start early and cook the chicken over the barbecue pits. A corn crew is in charge of getting the corn-on-the-cob ready for everyone to enjoy. The meal usually consists of chicken, chips, potato salad, cole slaw, corn-on-the-cob and rolls. There will also be a 5K run prior to dinner and a Classic Car Show and softball tournanents. These events will be held at Ziedler Park on the east side of Rockwell. This is the second year for the 5k run. Registration will begin at 7:30 AM with a 9:00 AM start. The fee is $25.00 which includes: a t-shirt, a medal, and complimentary meal ticket. On August 14th, the Rockwell Lions Club will be hosting their 6th annual consignment auction at the Chamber Acres. They will also be raffling off a Farmall 340 Tractor. Tickets for the raffle are $20 each or 6 for $100. For more information about this event contact a Lions member.
